Tim Campbell
In 2006, Tim Campbell founded Studio Tim Campbell to provide design services for high- end residential and commercial projects, along with historical renovations. Renovation projects include architect Richard Neutra’s Singleton House (1959) in Bel Air and an estate remodel featuring Luis Barragan’s Campbell Divertimento Fountain (1927), a City of Los Angeles Historic- Cultural Monument, which was featured in the Los Angeles Times. Other projects include a restoration of Lloyd Wright’s Alfred Newman Residence and a renovation of the 1936 Spanish Mission Revival Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs.
In addition to domestic projects, Campbell has worked on numerous international projects in locales as varied as Paris, Mexico City and Dubai.
In 2008, Campbell won a Single Family Residential Design award from the City of Beverly Hills Design Review Commission for a Spanish Mission Revival façade remodel for actress Diane Keaton.
Campbell’s fascination with design came early when he found a copy of Architectural Digest in an antique shop in West Virginia. Inspired by a Paris apartment featured in the issue, the six year-old Campbell wallpapered his room with newspapers to mimic a room overlooking the Seine that was papered with French newspapers. A few years later, Campbell also began to help his father build houses, an introduction to the construction process that further solidified his love for design.
“I began to draw whatever I was helping my father build at the time,” noted Campbell. “I have sketched for nearly as long as I have written and have found it to be a natural means of communicating ideas.”
In 1985, Campbell’s design career began in earnest when he founded CADD Production Resource, a company founded to provided outsource design, construction documents and project management services to the design community. Around this time, Campbell also apprenticed with the late Martin Eli Weil, a preservation architect and past president of the Los Angeles Conservancy.
“As my business grew, I was being asked to take a more primary role on a greater number of projects and my interest shifted signifi- cantly after designing and building my own home in Silver Lake,” said Campbell. “Studio Tim Campbell was a natural evolution of the business model growing from a less visible place to a more visible one.”
After designing his own home in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, the direction of the firm shifted to include all phases of the design process leading to the founding of Studio Tim Campbell in 2006, a full service architectural and design firm. An Interior Design and Furniture Design division was added in 2009.
Studio Tim Campbell’s office in the TriBeCa neighbourhood of New York City was opened in 2010.
In both Los Angeles and New York City, Studio Tim Campbell’s services include Architecture and Interior Design for residential, commercial and hospitality projects. We participate in all phases of project delivery from conceptual design to construction administration.
In addition to his design work, Campbell is an avid art collector. He lives in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, with his partner, Steve Machado and his two dogs, Jack and Boss. All four reside in their home, which he also designed and built to feature his contemporary art collection.
