Mawewe Literacy Centre

So after a year of planning, booking flights, scheduling cars, locking down hotels and hoping that London does not freeze over since we fly though Heathrow, our bags are nearly packed for South Africa. On March 22 while I depart from Los Angeles with my husband Steve, Robert Collins, Henry Zazueta and Erin Arthofer for London, Tanis Paul will depart from New York. We will rendezvous in London for a quick check in at the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Lounge before connecting for the overnight flight to Johannesburg. A few days later we will attend the opening of the Mawewe Literacy Centre in Dumfries, South Africa which we have helped build through Virgin Unite/ Pride ‘n Purpose.

The Literacy Center is deep in the bush in northwestern South Africa, about an eight hour drive north of Johannesburg. The building will provide an air conditioned study centre, fully stocked with books, computers, magazines and study supplies for the children living in the adjacent villages. Prior to the construction of the Literacy Center, the only choice for the students was to study under a tree in the searing afternoon heat. We trust that this very small token of our faith in humanity, our belief in education as the best means to eradicate poverty and most importantly, our dedication to giving back, will make a huge difference in the lives of those students.

If you would like to join us on this mission, we will happily take along school supplies on your behalf. Please contact us for further details and thank you for your belief in Studio Tim Campbell and our efforts to make the world a better place.
